SAVE THE BEES!

Last Friday mom took me on a field trip to learn about bees and why they are an important part of nature. Hilary from Girl Next Door Honey in San Diego came to a local library to teach me and some of my homeschool friends about honeybees. She wore a really cool bee suit. She even brought a hive full of bees to show us and an empty comb that some bees made. I thought the comb was so cool! I couldn't stop touching it. It was soft & squishy. We also got to taste some yummy honey that came straight from Hilary's bees. It was so good.

I learned lots of stuff. I learned about pollination and why it is so important for our food source. I even got pollinated myself! I learned about the different jobs bees have and how they are performed. Did you know that after the Queen Bee lays eggs and just before the bees move to a new hive the other bees make her go on a diet and work out? So funny! My favorite bees are the worker bees. They do this really cool thing called festooning where the bees sort of perform like acrobats as they build their hive. I had lots of fun.

Please don't kill bees as they are an important part of nature. They also make honey and honey has a lot of health benefits, especially for me. Did you know that honey never expires? Cool, huh. Mom says that Girl Next Door Honey will come out and do a live bee removal for you. They basically just move the nest so that it's not bothersome to you anymore and it doesn't hurt the bees. That is so cool.

What is your favorite fact about honeybees?
