Mom says I need to work on learning to write the alphabet so she found me a pen-pal. Her name is Olivia and she is from San Antonio, TX. I just received my first little package from her a little over a week ago. I was so excited! I love everything she sent me, especially the little whistle. Here is what she sent me:

Of course my mom being as she is, she went hunting on Pinterest for creative pen-pal ideas. She learned something really cool. Did you know that you can send almost anything unwrapped in the mail that is 13oz or less? We didn't know that until now. Mom helped me put everything together. I got to pick out a craft, stickers, a coloring page, a post card, glitter glue, crayons and a picture of myself to include in my first package to Olivia. I didn't have to write anything yet. Mom says we can slowly work on that.

Mom used a large needle and yarn to tie off the zipper so that it won't open during transit.

Mom surprised me by adding the bow. I just know Olivia is going to love it! This is exactly how we shipped it. No box or envelope. Just as is.

When we got to the post office, the postman was surprised that we were sending the pencil pouch as is. The look on his face was funny. But mom knew what she was doing. I slowed the line down a little bit because I wanted sticker stamps on the package and not the label postage that they print out. Mom even let me put the stamps on myself! It made me feel very important. After I put the stamps on it, mom took me outside to drop it in the mailbox. I hope the package reaches Olivia and doesn't get lost. I can't wait to see what she sends me next!

Have you ever sent something in the mail that was unwrapped?

Last Friday mom took me on a field trip to learn about bees and why they are an important part of nature. Hilary from Girl Next Door Honey in San Diego came to a local library to teach me and some of my homeschool friends about honeybees. She wore a really cool bee suit. She even brought a hive full of bees to show us and an empty comb that some bees made. I thought the comb was so cool! I couldn't stop touching it. It was soft & squishy. We also got to taste some yummy honey that came straight from Hilary's bees. It was so good.

I learned lots of stuff. I learned about pollination and why it is so important for our food source. I even got pollinated myself! I learned about the different jobs bees have and how they are performed. Did you know that after the Queen Bee lays eggs and just before the bees move to a new hive the other bees make her go on a diet and work out? So funny! My favorite bees are the worker bees. They do this really cool thing called festooning where the bees sort of perform like acrobats as they build their hive. I had lots of fun.

Please don't kill bees as they are an important part of nature. They also make honey and honey has a lot of health benefits, especially for me. Did you know that honey never expires? Cool, huh. Mom says that Girl Next Door Honey will come out and do a live bee removal for you. They basically just move the nest so that it's not bothersome to you anymore and it doesn't hurt the bees. That is so cool.

What is your favorite fact about honeybees?

Hi! My name is Landon. I am four years old and I live in San Diego, CA with my Mom & Dad. My mom started homeschooling me last fall so we are always doing all sorts of fun things. We go on field trips at least once a month and I get to meet up with friends at least once a week to do fun projects. I love having my mom home with me. She always has lots of fun things for me to do.

There are other things that I love too. I LOVE trains! I also love to play with anything that has wheels or rolls and I really enjoy playing with my legos. I'm not very good at following the instructions yet but I have fun using my imagination and engineering some really cool stuff out of my legos.

My mom also makes me really yummy special food. I have Leaky Gut Syndrome so I am always eating strictly paleo. Mom makes me some super yummy stuff though and we will be sure to share some of her recipes here with you along with keeping you all updated on all the fun stuff I get to do. Also, if you'd like to learn more about my condition and the help I need, you can do so by clicking on my fundraiser at the right of my blog. Thanks for visiting!
